When blogging first appeared online it was thought of something that was only for geeks or weirdo’s, but over the last few years, not only have they become mainstream, but a lot of businesses now use the software as the backbone of their web site.

Many internet marketers swear by blog software as these days as it is not only easy to setup, but with all the plugins available it is also very powerful. It seems like everyone now has a blog whether it is hosted or self-hosted, but very few actually make money from it.

So the question is; “Can you make money blogging?” The answer is yes whether you are using the blog for business, or to bring in a bit more income with a personal site. However it is not as simple as launching a blog and then leaving it, if it was that easy we would all be rich, but that isn’t the case. In order to monetize a blog it takes time and effort, you get little in this world for free. For the people who do put the work in, then the rewards can be well worth it.

The first thing you need to do is setup a blog, and although the hosted ones are cheap and quick to do, they are not as flexible as a self-hosted one, so you need to know what works best for you. The next decision is whether to use a domain name or just use the hosted one, however, you should always use a domain name as it looks more professional.

If you are self-hosting then you obviously need to find yourself some server space, and you should be paying no more than $10 a month for that. However, if you will be running multiple blogs, then it is recommended to get a VPS with CPanel, this will allow you to run a decent number of blogs for around $20 a month.

Once you are setup then you need to add fresh content on a regular basis in order to keep people coming back for more, and always try and post articles that are likely to instigate a response from visitors via the comments are. This helps keep the page refreshed with new content which the search engines love.

•    Always collect email addresses of as many visitors as possible, offering something free but useful is usually good enough. Then you can email offers, but include information useful to them, otherwise you end up looking like a spammer.

•    Allow guest posting on your site and charge for that.
•    Register on sites that are related to yours that have an affiliate program and push the product.
•    Sell your own product such as an eBook.
•    Write reviews and include affiliate links.
•    If you become pretty successful then it is possible to have a company sponsor your site.
•    Include PPC ads.
